How does the consultation work?

Unsure if you are eligible for parental allowance in Germany?

Book your free and non-binding call and find out!

Elterngeld (Parental Allowance) is a state benefit designed to support parents who reduce or stop their working hours to care for their newborn. It compensates for a part of the lost income (usually between 65% and 100%, capped at €1,800 per month). It is paid for 12 to 14 months (Basic Elterngeld) or can be stretched up to 28 months (Elterngeld Plus).

Yes, absolutely. Eligibility does not depend on your passport, but on your residence status. If you live in Germany and hold a valid residence permit that allows you to work (e.g., Blue Card, ICT Card, or settlement permit), you are generally eligible. Only specific visas (like student or language course visas) are usually excluded. We can verify your specific permit during our consultation.

The amount is based on your average monthly net income in the 12 months before the birth (or before maternity leave).

  • Minimum: €300 per month (even if you had no prior income).

  • Maximum: €1,800 per month. For most high-earning professionals, the monthly payout is capped at the maximum of €1,800. We will provide a precise calculation during our strategy session.

Generally, yes. If you have a settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) or a residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) that allows you to work in Germany (e.g., Blue Card, Family Reunification), you are eligible. Note: Permits for the purpose of study or language courses usually do not qualify.

Yes, as long as your primary residence and „center of life“ remain in Germany and you continue to live in the same household as your child. However, if you plan to move abroad permanently during the benefit period, your eligibility usually ends. Temporary vacations or family visits are perfectly fine.

The official forms and communication with the Elterngeldstelle are exclusively in German. This is where most international parents struggle. Our service bridges this gap: We explain everything in English and prepare the German forms for you, so you only need to sign them.

Once the application is submitted (after birth), it typically takes 6 to 12 weeks for the authorities to process it. Since Elterngeld is paid retroactively for up to three months, we make sure your application is submitted correctly and on time to avoid financial gaps.

It is not automatic. You must actively apply for it at the local Elterngeld office (Elterngeldstelle). The application can only be submitted after your child’s birth, as you will need the birth certificate. Since the process is exclusively in German and requires many supporting documents, we help you prepare everything in advance to ensure a smooth payout.

Ideally, you should start as soon as you know you are pregnant. But even if you are closer to the due date, we can still optimize your months and handle the paperwork.
